A bit about me
Hi, I’m Abi.
I’ve always been fascinated by how our brains work and why we do the things we do. Over the years I’ve loved learning how psychology and neuroscience can help us better understand ourselves and make life feel a little more manageable. Outside of therapy, you will usually find me cooking, spending time in the sun, or looking for the next great place to eat. I grew up in Louisiana, where good food is taken pretty seriously. After graduating with my Master’s degree, I spent almost 10 years living in Washington DC before eventually settling in Western North Carolina, where I now call home.
These days, much of my work is with women who spend a lot of time in their heads and often feel overwhelmed by their own thoughts. Many of the people I meet are thoughtful, capable, and deeply reflective, but they also spend a lot of time second guessing themselves or worrying about how they are coming across. They often feel responsible for keeping everything in their lives running smoothly. Earlier in my life, therapy helped me learn how to quiet some of the outside noise and actually listen to myself. I learned that what I think and what I want deserve to matter too. That experience shaped the way I show up as a therapist today. If you spend a lot of time in your head trying to get everything exactly right, you are probably in the right place.
I have worked in the mental health field for more than a decade and have practiced in a variety of settings, including inpatient hospitals, medical clinics, outpatient practices, and private practice. Supporting people in these different environments has shaped the way I approach therapy today and deepened my ability to help clients understand themselves and make meaningful changes in their lives.
